    Photography for me is not just a job, it's a passion. It's what I love. Capturing moments in time so that we can hold onto them for just a smidgen longer, that is what I'm all about!

    If you are new here...Hi, and thanks for taking a peek! I've been interested in photography since I was young, always anxiously awaiting the day I could pick up my negatives from the store and see what I had captured. I became more serious about my photography in 2007 as a creative outlet, before I knew it I was in business and loving every minute of it. I am a natural light child and family photographer specializing in newborns, children, and families.

I’ve been working on a few projects for our teeny boys nursery and since there are only 2.5 months before his arrival I’ve now kicked things into high gear around here. Today I’m going to share one of the projects I’ve been working on…which is now complete! Yay!

When we were expecting Jack I decided to do some paintings for above his crib. I didn’t want to buy something as I really wanted something in the room that was handmade for him by me and since Jack’s room had a simple robot theme I decided to paint three robots on individual canvases. Since I did that for Jack I knew I wanted to do a similar project for this squish but it took quite a bit longer to figure out the theme for his room. We finally decided on elephants and went with very muted tones for the entire room. I did some scouring online to find an elephant that I liked that was both cute but not too cute and then headed to Michaels for supplies.

I decided to just do one canvas this time so I chose to go bigger. It’s a 20×24″ canvas. I started by hand drawing the outline and then just filled him in, adding shadows and highlights as I deemed necessary. There really was no method to my madness, I just wanted it to look like an elephant and not a blue blob on canvas. I’m pretty happy with the result…

I got to meet this sweet 6 day old boy in the studio recently. He was so adorable and I can’t wait to go through the rest of his images. For now, a tiny sneak peek for mom and dad:)

Bittersweet Photography’s Pic of the Year 2011

I can’t believe that 2011 is already finished. So many wonderful things happened both personally and professionally that made it a hard year to say goodbye to. As we move into 2011 I’m looking forward to a lot of big changes around here…including a welcoming a new baby into little family in April!

Now it’s time for the end of the year contest. I’ve been sifting through images deciding what some of my favourites are and now it’s your turn to help me decide.

The Prize(s):

(1) The grand prize winner (person with the highest number of votes) will receive a complimentary 2012 regular session AND a 20×24 canvas of their favourite image from that session

(2) One runner up (person with the second-highest number of votes) will receive a $100 gift certificate to use towards a 2012 regular session with Bittersweet Photography

A couple of rules…

- Voting is open from January 15th-22th 2012 (ending midnight EST)
- Results will not be shown but I will announce the winners on Monday, January 23rd at 8:30pm
- You have a chance to vote TWICE per person, once on this blog (use the poll below) and once on the Bittersweet Photography facebook page (you must like the page AND the image – images will be uploaded to a special folder). I will tally the votes and announce the winners.
